Pizzeria DiCicco
Review! Charlotte, North Carolina // food truck // MWUAH! chef's kiss 💋
the ELEVATOR PITCH
I have had my eyes on trying Pizzeria DiCicco (pronounced: da-CHEE-ko) since December 2022, and finally the day is here! The wait has been worth the while! (I finally wasn’t too lazy to track them down! We finally made it because they were down the street from my house!)
DiCicco’s Neapolitan-style pizza walks the thin European crust tightrope with balance and confidence. The crust has both body and structure yet is light, airy, and tender–like a sheet of warm-white cotton fiber paper with a matte eggshell finish you would find a fancy wedding invitation sitting on (one of my pet peeves is when a thin crust pizza can’t do its job to hold its toppings in the middle, but this proprietary recipe is doing the trick!).Â
The meat toppings each are tried and true to their namesakes: quarter-sized pepperonis had curled up, tastefully singed edges; crumbled Italian sausage were toned & fit, and didn’t feel coagulated with fillers; rippling soppressata had a vibrant red flush about her–so fresh and natural. Each topping knew their role and played it well.
Pizzeria DiCicco definitely takes the cake for the best Neapolitan pizza in Charlotte. ✨
honest reviews from a trip in August 2024 👇
Had the sweetest conversation with Anna from the Pizzeria DiCicco team, she shared their dough is made with a 3-day pre-ferment, which contributes to the wonderful airy tender texture that is an absolute dream for your teeth to sink into and for your belly to cuddle with 🤤
Bianca Pizza: the perfect canvas that lets the flavorful pepperoni and fiery Calabrian chilis shine through (boy, did the chilis surprise me with the punch they packed, but it’s a totally manageable spice and I highly recommend you add it! May be a new favorite staple topping for me 👀). I never used to like white pizzas until the ones from Pizzeria DiCicco—somehow their white pizzas never make me feel junky/lethargic nor sit heavy in my stomach, even after I devour the entire pie myself. 🤪 (rating: 10/10)
Garlic White: comparing the garlic white next to the bianca pizza, you can clearly taste the clear garlic cream sauce shining through! It’s subtle enough that it won’t leave you with garlic breath, but present enough that you get the deliciousness of garlic. Great base for when you have toppings with introverted personalities (like this spicy soppressata that isn’t actually too loud). (rating: 10/10)

THIS CRUST: seriously one of the main reasons why I love their pizza. SO TENDER! Usually crust can get super stale and tasteless, but not the ones from Pizzeria DiCicco. It’s the kind of tender that low key makes you feel like you’re eating a croissant… anyway, if it’s a testament, my husband usually doesn’t eat the crust of pizza, but he eats every crumb of the crust on these! (rating: 10/10)
finally tried dessert~

Vanilla Cannoli: color me impressed! I used to think cannoli was super overrated, but this one changed my mind. The cream was multi-faceted (loveeedddd the orange zest, and how the chocolate chips were soft and melted into the cream) and the shell crisp and delicate (versus others I’ve had that feel stale and are hard to bite). Highly recommend these if you love cannoli or if you don’t yet and need your mind changed. (rating: 10/10)

Almond Cookies: I cannot say how impressed I was by these—thought they’d be the crumbly kind, but they were a delightful chewiness (like a cross between a snickerdoodle cookie and a macaron!). The sweetness was just enough, and the almond-y flavor wasn’t too artificial but also there. (rating: 10/10)
and we just kept going back… (status of my wallet: 💀 & status of my waist line: 💪)

the RÉSUMÉ
address // they’re a wandering gypsy–their pop-up location varies, check the events tab on their website, or their Instagram @pizzeriadicicco
operations // their hours vary depending on where they’re popping up at (but typically a 12 PM - 4 PM, or 5:00 - 9:00 PM at a given place)
💔 their last day of operations: December 14, 2024
logistics // sometimes they’ll request a pre-order if you want to secure your ‘za, so make sure you’re staying vigilant by following them on Instagram or subscribing to their newsletter; plan for a 25-30 minute wait after you order, they make the pizzas fresh!
vibes // issa food truck! So wear whatever you want 🙂 I could see them being a great addition to an event like a wedding.
prices // pizzas range $12.00 - $16.00 for a personal size and come pretty Plain Jane with no toppings (aside from fresh basil when listed), after adding 1-2 toppings, your final order can be $15.00 - $20.00, not including tip & tax. This stacks DiCicco on the higher end of the pizza pricing range, so don’t expect a Domino’s meal price point.
recs // the white pizzas here are show stoppers (the red sauce could be more flavorful for me), and all of the meat toppings are 10/10 (my favorite is the Italian sausage!)
