Kitten Deli
Review! Neukölln, Berlin // Mediterranean restaurant // a gem
the ELEVATOR PITCH
To call this place a deli is a bit of a misnomer. If you’re someone like me who, when solely given a name of a restaurant and nothing else, has a bad habit of:
Concluding what food is to be offered based on the restaurant’s name (deli? must be a sandwich place)
Formulating a hypothetical menu and consumer experience based on that conclusion (white chalk on black board, extensive sandwich menu options lining the wall; refrigerated counters, wood-beamed ceilings, shelved walls housing an assortment of meats, cheeses. Did I nail the vibe? Totally.)
Deciding what to order from that recently-formulated hypothetical menu (well, obviously their pastrami on rye or the Italian)
Devouring what I had just ordered from the recently-formulated hypothetical menu as if I am a paid customer (the flavor is impeccable, my life is changed!)
So you can only imagine my initial disappointment when I realize Kitten Deli was not, indeed, a sandwich place at all (there goes, 10 minutes down the drain. The culprit? Getting ahead of myself), and that I should not go and expect to order a pastrami on rye.
But, my expectations aside, there’s more than what meets the eye! Kitten Deli offers brunch, lunch, and dinner options, and has quickly earned street cred and the people’s label as one of the top places for vegetarian eastern Mediterranean cuisine in Berlin. And the people don’t lie, the crown is well-deserved: the dishes are so flavorful that you don’t even miss meat (even me, who’s such a carnivore).
Bonus? In good weather, the outdoor dining experience has the most European ambiance (😍) and makes for great people watching.

must-try // The challah bread was a transportation to another dimension, and paired so well with the hummus and shakshuka.
