the ELEVATOR PITCH
From the lack of American dessert flavor options (i.e. Oreo) to the number of Chinese characters on their menu, to the East Asian art style incorporated into their branding, Dosha knows their audience: people looking for nostalgia or no-nonsense bubble tea. Bubble tea doesn't get more authentic than its 1980's roots of ebony tapioca pearls swimming in an ocean of high-quality Taiwanese tea, and in this day and age it can be hard to find the bread & butter without all the innovative-cultural-fusion-fluff (a seasonal iced sugar cookie flavor? Ew, no thanks).
So you can imagine I was very excited to try all Dosha had to offer... just to be left thinking, "is that it?" We ordered the roasted Oolong milk tea and the Oolong Brulee and both had small tea-to-milk ratios—I would've preferred the tea to have more body and presence but it felt fleeting and timid (my fancy way of saying diluted). The tapioca pearls were a good chew but were fragmented, probably for every five whole pearls I encountered a torn fragment (of course, this could just be a bad batch, but that still speaks to inconsistency).
On a more positive note, the Oolong Brûlée included shards of torched sugar that crunched like potato chips! It very accurately harkened to its Crème Brûlée ancestral roots and was a pleasant addition.
I'll leave you with one last thing: Dosha is very eco-friendly. All of their products are paper or glass, which allows for easy recycling and/or reusability. A perk for those who are looking for eco-friendly restaurants, brands, and shops to support!
