Chez Marie Pâtisserie
Review! Charlotte, North Carolina // patisserie & viennoiserie & boulangerie // aesthetic
the ELEVATOR PITCH
Chez Marie (pronounced “Shay Ma-ree”) is that pretty new girl on the block that everyone admires because she brings a whiff of sophistication that the small town she moved to lacks. As she strolls by, everything about her just wows: she wears the hit brands and starts the new fashion trends. Why can’t we be as cool as her?
Her interiors are the perfect setting for hosting. The elegant wall trim, chevron wood flooring, and marble, sapphire blue, and matte gold furniture and cutlery scheme makes for a classy canvas for anything from a casual brunch to a business meeting.
Then there’s her menu selection, which is the perfect candidate for anything from your everyday enjoyment to a special occasion. The patisserie are works of art you’ll have a difficult time cutting into with a fork (they’re too pretty to eat!), the viennoiserie selection hits all of the classic notes, and the boulangerie sits casually in a basket, freshly baked for you to enjoy later in the week.
If you go, definitely order an entremet, a croissant creation (and have them toast it), and a fun blue matcha to try. Their macarons aren’t bad but they aren’t the best in the area (the make is inconsistent): sometimes the texture is just right–lightly crunchy shell with a chewy cookie–and other times the cookie is completely off base–the shell is too crunchy, leaving a gaping cavern in the cookie after you bite. Overall, Chez Marie is a great place for a photo op and to impress out-of-town visitors, but you won’t find yourself going everyday.

the RÉSUMÉ

operations // Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Sunday - 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Monday, CLOSED.
logistics // the parking lot gets tight because of all of the storefronts in the plaza, but usually there’s a free spot if you look
vibes // stunning, classy, elegant, perfect destination for an excuse to dress up
amenities // 1 public bathroom (includes a changing table); WiFi available with password posted (although sometimes our devices don’t recognize the WiFi and can’t sign in)
+ they offer afternoon tea on Thursdays; check their Instagram for details!
menu // patisserie items: entremets, eclairs, macarons, tartlettes; viennoiserie items: croissants, pain au chocolat, danishes, croissant Supreme (!!!); boulangerie items: sourdough loaves, baguettes; entrées: quiches, sandwiches, crepes, with salad options; beverages: espresso, chai, matcha lattes, etc.
prices // patisserie: ~$8-$10; viennoiserie: ~$3-$7; boulangerie: ~$6-$10; entrees: $10-$15
the rec // blue matcha latte (granted, a little overrated, but super fun; using butterfly pea powder!), berry entremet, spinach + feta danish
I wouldn’t come here for their entrées—portions are small, side salads (spring mix + tomato…) are swimming in dressing, baguettes are dry; overall you can find similar meals for better else where
I also wouldn’t come here for their viennoiserie—you’ll find cracklier and better-layered croissants & etc. at Vicente
But definitely come here for their entremets!
