AMRIT
Review! Mitte, Berlin // Northern Indian restaurant // impressive
the ELEVATOR PITCH
The Indian restaurants that I’ve been to in the Midwest/North Carolina cannot even begin to compare themselves with this majestic beauty. AMRIT nails the dining ambiance: the warm, lowlight creates an intimacy that bright fluorescent cannot compete with, the elevated dinnerware teleports you to a special occasion (even if you’re not looking for one), and where there aren’t windows and beautiful art, there are mirrors that are placed intentionally to make you double take on the natural size of the space. There is also ample indoor and outdoor seating! When we were dining in, there were two large groups celebrating life milestones with smaller parties peppered in the cracks, and we didn’t feel at all crowded out.
As for food, we ordered the Palak Gosht with Lamb (cozy, tender, and flavorful), a Salmon Kochi Curry (WOW. Does fish wear a coat of curry well!), and a KiBa (a Cherry Banana drink, so interestingly smooth and tart). Of course, these entrees wouldn’t be able to hit the Northern Indian cuisine runway without their makeup foundation of jasmine rice (imported from Gurgeon) and a perfume spritz of citrus house salad!
